The major activities /functions carried out by the Department are as follows.

1. Protection and maintenance of Government lands and trees therein- Village Office, Taluk Office, Revenue Divisional Officer, District Collector

2. Collection of land tax, plantation tax, building tax etc - Village Office, Taluk Office

3. Land Records Maintenance – Village Office, LR/Special Tahsildar

4. Election - Taluk Office, Collectorate

5. Land Assignment - Taluk Office, Special Tahsildar (Land Assignment), Land Tribunal

6. Issue of certificates -Village Office, Taluk Office, Revenue Divisional Office, Collectorate

7. Collection of arrears due on land via RR Act – Village Officer, Tahsildar(RR), Taluk Office

8. Land transfer between departments - Village Office, Taluk Office, Revenue Divisional Office, District Collectorate, Land Revenue Commissionerate, Government of Kerala

9. Activities related to Disaster Management - Village Office, Taluk Office, Revenue Divisional Office, District Collectorate, Land Revenue Commissionerate

10. Protection of minerals, regulation of quarrying of rock and sand - Taluk Office, Revenue Divisional Office

11. Arms license, explosives license – District Collector, ADM

12. Implementation of projects under MPLADS scheme - District Collector

13. District/Taluk level Magisterial functions – Tahsildar, Revenue Divisional Officer, Deputy Collector (General), District Collector

14. Regressing public grievances - All offices

In addition to these, the Department performs functions as stated in more than 150 Acts and Rules. All these activities are performed via the Commissionerate of Land Revenue, District Collectorates, Revenue Divisional Offices, Taluk Offices and Village Offices in the state. In addition, there are special offices for land protection and land acquisition.
